Interpreting Experimental Data
In this exercise, students are asked to interpret the results of an animal
speech perception experiment. This student has clicked "Yes," believing that the
animals perceived the synthetic speech continuum categorically in the experiment.
Here students are asked if listener experience influenced the
results of a music perception experiment.
Finally, all the responses are collected and tabulated. None of the
theories is completely compatible with all of the outcomes this student predicted. This
experimental fact could serve as the basis for an interesting discussion by advanced
students. Students could think about the experimental results that would be needed to lend
significant support to one of the offered theories of speech perception.
