Sensimetrics provides consulting services in the areas of signal processing for speech and audio, speech production and synthesis, and forensic sound analysis.

Analysis of Audio Recordings

Among the special services offered by Sensimetrics are the analysis of recordings, especially recordings of speech, to establish the integrity of the recordings, and to apply proprietary methods of enhancement to make the recorded sound or speech clearer.

As awareness of research at Sensimetrics has increased, we have been asked to undertake special studies in relatively remote areas of acoustics.  These have included the comparison of rap music recordings to resolve copyright issues; testing the ability of listeners to remember and identify the sounds of bell buoys off the Maine coast; analyzing certain trumpet sounds produced by Louis Armstrong; studying the validity of product claims of sound clarity made in television commercials; verifying the accuracy of transcripts of whispered speech recordings; separating speech from the noise of a helicopter; and, other highly specialized acoustic problems. This activity has often resulted in the need to provide court testimony, including clear, graphic explanations of the issues and of our work, which we have provided.

Sensimetrics has provided analysis of tape recordings for major corporations, including MCI, Inc., Conrail, Texas Instruments, Inc., Ford Motor Company, General Electric Corporation, and John Hancock Life Insurance Company. Sensimetrics has also carried out speech analysis for broadcast media including ABC News, ABC Prime Time, and NBC Nightly News. This work has included the application of proprietary developments in speech analysis, and verification of the integrity of recordings.
