Things to listen for:
Three demos of tinnitus are given,
all associated with an abrupt high-frequency hearing
loss beginning at about 2 kHz, as shown in the figure.
The tinnitus is located around 1.5 kHz. In addition to
NH (normal hearing with no tinnitus), the simulation
conditions are:
● HL - hearing loss alone, with no
tinnitus,
● HL-T1 – tinnitus simulated with a
single pure tone to produce a ringing sensation,
● HL-T3 – tinnitus simulated with
three tones, producing a whistling sensation, and
● HL-N – tinnitus simulated with a
band of noise to evoke a noisy sensation.
The stimuli are: No Stimulus (to
allow you to hear the tinnitus alone), a sentence, and
two music passages.
As mentioned above, these demos
only provide an indication of the sensation of tinnitus.
The annoyance that tinnitus sufferers face stems from
the fact that such an internally-generated sensation is
ever-present and cannot be stopped. |
